I have had a profound awareness brought to me via dust. It is amazing
how one can travel through life completely unaware of certain parts of it. To
have it be there and yet not to be seen or even in ones consciousness. This is
true for me and dust.
This summer our city was hit with a big flood. Although our house was
not affected, I felt compelled to clean. To clean under and behind, for fear
that somehow the water vapours of this traumatic flood had indeed reached into
our walls and invaded our home. Like so many other Calgarian’s I was cleaning
out my basement. Perhaps to just feel part of what was going on, but I sense
more as part of a collective consciousness that was summoned to clean. I found
myself filled with energy and stamina to reach behind things, under things, and
above things like never before. To sort, file, toss and sterilize as though I
was rummaging through the debris of my basement.
I was amazed to find great amounts of dust. One would assume that the
amount would indicate a lack of regular cleaning. Sadly no. I do clean regularly
and this is why it is such an interesting awareness. That even though I clean
and inhabit this space on a regular basis, there still was so much dust that I had
never seen before.
Then came the insight of how this is true in our perception of life. We can inhabit our daily
lives and miss so much, even though it is right there all the time. It isn’t
until we bring our awareness to it, that “it” can be seen and become part of our
consciousness. Now that I know where and how much dust was in my basement, I
now find myself seeing it everywhere. I have been cleaning furiously this
summer to address the build-up of dust in our home. Places I never even thought
to look or clean before.
I like to think I am scrubbing my energetic being at the same time. Releasing blocked energy
and attracting new abundance and the greater appreciation of what I am yet to see.
Getting unbusy on purpose has been a process. I'm here to share some of what I have learned and the tales of its making.
