All this started with one step. I watched the movie Fat Sick and Nearly Dead, after wanting to have a pity party for myself and all that was wrong with my body a year and a half ago. Highly recommend the show for motivation. Not only did the main guy, Joe Cross lose 87lbs in 90 days, but he completed reversed his autoimmune disease. That is what got me, seeing health return to a man in such a short time. I was convinced plants could do the same for me. And like Joe, I decided to screw all conventional health information about what to eat and not to eat and started eating mostly what the earth makes. Nuts, seeds, fruits, veggies etc. I figured the closer I could get to the source the better. Hence a move to more raw, vegan whole foods. Turns out I had a bit of a lactose issue I didn’t want to address either - and decided that all the health things people had told me over the years including naturopaths I would do. I got right into it and decided there were no short cuts. I needed a long term solution and this was the path for me. Needless to say I am absolutely passionate about it as I have watched my wrinkles, fat and old age melt away and health and vitality return in its place.
So as for the juicer, yes they can be a pain to clean and they produce lots of pulp, but don’t let that stop you. The benefits are amazing. Watch the pbs, shows on Youtube by Dr. Joel Furhman about plant based eating and how it helps your body with micronutrients and plant based eating. It is the kind of information, you will find you can’t believe you have lived your whole life not knowing. So basic and profound. If you want life, you need to eat living foods.
Don’t worry about the money spent on the juicer and vitamix. They become essential tools for this kind of eating and make life much simpler. They are your health care dollars at work. What you will notice, is you stop shopping in the middle of the grocery store buying all the premade food (that is what is killing people) and start to look for the highest quality food to feed your body. Truly realizing that you are what you eat and food is medicine. When I was sick and over weight I was that food. Now not so much. I am organic, living and alive. Check out the documentary Hungry for Change on Netflix. Take notes and before you know it, you will be buying grass fed meats, organic produce and singing to the tune of life again.
If you need to dip your toe into the shallow end, I can help get you started. I have so many websites I can direct you to wonderful great recipes. I found it like going to the weight room for the first time and not knowing what to do. It is like anything, one step at a time. Just keep adding one more good thing to your life and the rest will fall away. I did that, took courses, went to lectures and found myself wandering the isles of the health food store looking, trying and experimenting.
You will find what works for you and your life with kids. Bonus is the kids love the machines and it will astound you how they gravitate to it. They will see the changes in you and want to be part of it. My daughter now is my juice master and smoothie gal. They don’t like the green stuff yet, and I don’t push them, but I know they are on the path. They love the fruit leathers I make in my dehydrator and all the yummy dried fruit we create. It is a journey, but when you keep your long term goal in mind and reinforce the belief that we will all get there in our timing, it can be truly wondrous to find a new way that leaves you feeling confident that you can live peacefully in your own body and teach your children how to support theirs.
I know this is not the path for everyone, but some version of it can fit. Just one step at a time. Ps. as for the pulp, my son loves his vermicomposter and we make soil for our microgreens. Full circle health.
Much love on your journey,
